The First Batch of Tallow That Changed Everything (and What God Was Teaching Me in the Process)
Share
I still remember the first time I made tallow. It was in 2020. I was pregnant with my daughter and struggling with dermatitis on my face. I knew I needed to make a change.
My first batch wasn’t a business idea. It wasn’t a brand. It was just me, curious and a little frustrated, trying to find something better for my skin—and honestly, for my family too.
I had tried so many products that looked promising but never truly felt right. My skin was reactive, everything felt overly complicated, and I kept wondering why something so simple felt so hard to find.
So I started researching.
That’s when I came across tallow.
At first, I hesitated. It didn’t sound like something I’d ever put on my skin. But the more I learned, the more it made sense—simple, traditional, deeply nourishing, and surprisingly aligned with how our skin actually functions.
So I decided to try it. Also, because I had easy access to it!
I melted it down carefully, unsure if I was even doing it right. There was no fancy setup. No perfect labeling. Just a small batch made in a kitchen between normal life moments. There was not a lot of information out there about tallow then. I found a sweet lady and followed her Youtube videos and her method is still the method I use today because it really is the best way.
That first batch wasn’t pretty.
But it worked.
And something about that moment stayed with me.
Because while I thought I was just experimenting with skincare… I was actually stepping into something much bigger.
I didn’t have a perfect plan. I still don’t.
I was working a 9–5 job. I was still showing up for my family in the middle of everyday responsibilities. I wasn’t in a season where I could “drop everything” and build a business.
But I kept going anyway—in small, imperfect steps.
And somewhere in the middle of that, God started shifting my perspective.
Not by giving me everything at once… but by providing what I needed for the next step.
An idea here. Clarity there. Encouragement when I was unsure. Direction when I felt stuck.
Looking back, I can see it more clearly now:
This wasn’t just about skincare.
It was about learning to trust the process of provision.
Because provision doesn’t always look like sudden change. Sometimes it looks like learning something new after work. Making something simple at home. Saying yes to small beginnings that don’t look like much yet.
That first batch of tallow became a reminder for me:
Small obedience can lead to something much bigger than you can see in the moment.
Today, I’m still building. Still learning. Still growing this alongside real life.
But I don’t look at that first batch as “just a recipe” anymore.
I see it as the beginning of something God was quietly putting together long before I understood it.
And if you’re in a season where things feel slow, unclear, or in-between—I want you to know this:
Sometimes the most meaningful things start in the smallest, most ordinary moments.
